The PROMISE consortium is proud to highlight the achievements of Segun Olabanji Oladele, an alumnus of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master PROMISE program. A s a member of the inaugural cohort, Segun continues to demonstrate the program’s mission to foster innovation and global leadership in sustainable resource engineering.
After completing his master’s studies, Segun embarked on a PhD at the Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University (USA), where he focuses on advancing sustainable approaches to energy and mineral systems.
This summer, Segun was featured by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) during the MINEXCHANGE Conference 2025, a recognition that underscores his growing impact in the global minerals community.

In addition to this milestone, Segun has earned several competitive research grants from prestigious organizations, including:
- American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)
- Geological Society of America (GSA)
- Clay Minerals Society (CMS)
- Robert J. Reynolds Jr. Research Grant Award — see announcement
Segun expressed deep gratitude to the PROMISE faculty and consortium partners for the academic foundation and mentorship that have shaped his research career.
“Thanks to all the professors at the PROMISE program, I’ve been able to build on a strong interdisciplinary base and continue exploring new frontiers in mineral and energy engineering,” he shared. The PROMISE consortium congratulates Segun on his outstanding achievements and looks forward to following his continued
