Erasmus Scholarship

Three types of scholarships are available for non-EU and EU students alike.

1) A total of 19 Erasmus Mundus full scholarships are available for the four intake in 2025. In 2025, EMJM PROMISE awarded scholarships to students from:

  • 19 full scholarships: Partner Countries and Program Countries

The Erasmus Mundus scholarship has a value of EUR 1400 per month as a living allowance, for a total duration of 24 months. The scholarship will be a contribution to the costs incurred by the beneficiary students. In addition, the tuition fees for scholarship holders are waived.

The scholarship is bound to attendance at the partner universities. Late arrivals will lead to a pro-rate reduction. The scholarships are paid at the end of the month and require that all residence formalities have been completed. Therefore, even scholarship holders need to have sufficient funds for travelling to Finland, getting accommodation in Oulu, and covering their living costs for at least one month!

2) Ten additional Tuition Fee scholarships (Fee waivers ) A Full Fee Waiver covers the costs of the Tuition Fees for the first and second years of study (it doesn’t include living allowance). It also includes participation in all activities related to the PROMISE programme without additional fees and two-year health insurance.

  • 10 tuition fee scholarships awarded

All students receive comprehensive insurance (with the Erasmus+ requirements) from the PROMISE consortium.

EMJM PROMISE scholarships are offered to students from all over the world based on excellence. However, the consortium needs to ensure geographical balance – i.e. no more than 10% of the total number of scholarships awarded during the project implementation should be awarded to candidates from the same nationality (this rule does not apply to top-up scholarships from targeted regions of the world, if applicable).

Students who have previously obtained an EMJM scholarship are not eligible to apply for an additional scholarship under the EMJM PROMISE.

Candidate / Student Declaration

To avoid double-funding of students, the EMJMD consortium requests the students to declare (both at the application stage and in the student agreement) the following:

  • “The student candidate/scholarship holder declares to not have already benefited from a previous EMJMD scholarship or an Erasmus Mundus Master Course/Joint Doctorate scholarship.
  • The student candidate/scholarship holder commits to not benefit from another EU funded scholarship scheme to follow the same EMJMD course for the entire period of the course.
  • The financial support shall be repaid by the scholarship holder in case of fraud or false declaration.”
